Orientation week - I can't believe it's almost here!

I’m excited to see you all bright and early Monday morning! Here is the website with directions to campus, both for driving and taking public transportation: http://www.temple.edu/medicine/about/directions.htm

If you are parking on-campus, the parking attendant will have a list of the in-coming students the first morning. Park in the Carlisle West Lot.

All students should meet at 8AM in the 4th floor lobby of the Student Faculty Center which is on the corner of Broad and Ontario.

Have a great weekend!

Orientation Parking

Does anyone know where we can park for orientation? We haven't gotten the parking IDs yet, and if I'm not mistaken, they're not valid until August 13th anyways.

Also, on the new orientation schedule that's been posted up, it says meet on the 4th floor lobby. Is this in the Student Faculty Center building??

Thanks ahead for answering my questions!

I don't bite...

Hey everyone,
It's Jason again. The place I was looking at before has been rented out but I found a place on 11th and vine that's pretty awesome. It's going for $2000 and can easily accomodate 3 people. I know it's a little pricey but all utilities are included and it's a huge 2 bedroom, newly renovated condo.

Heat, water, gas, electricity, AC all included in rent
1156 sq feet in a highrise (9th floor out of 16)
New carpet in the bedrooms
Hardwood floors
Great views from all rooms, plenty of natural light
Washer and Dryer are in the unit.
Walking distance to grocery stores , restaurants, Chinatown, Reading Terminal and public transportation
24 hr security
Large living room
Nice kitchen with gas range and dishwasher
Gym on the 2nd floor

If you're still looking for a place and are interested email me at JasonQLam@gmail.com or call me at (510)499-6056. If you have any questions let me know and I can contact the property manager. She's rented to a lot of students before and is really helpful. This is the last unit in the building.
Here are some pictures.

Pennsylvania State Child Abuse History Clearance

I spoke with many of you today regarding the PA Child Abuse Screening forms. This is different than the criminal background check which you all have completed. If you are just starting this process, you should have the PA Child Abuse certificate sent to your new address in Philadelphia, since it will take a few weeks to get back. Once you have the certificate from PA, make yourself a copy and send the original to Temple.

Here are the instructions from TempleMedOnline:

Temple University School of Medicine is now requiring that all students complete a Pennsylvania State Child Abuse History Clearance Form prior to matriculation. Please attend to the following as soon as possible:

1) Instructions on completing the form can be found at:
http://www.dpw.state.pa.us/child/childabuseneglect/003671038.htm

2) The form can be found at:
http://www.dpw.state.pa.us/Resources/Documents/Pdf/FillInForms/DPWchildabuse.pdf

3) Print and complete Section I. The address you provide should be your current
home address. The results will be sent to you within 2 weeks of the DPW receiving the
form. Make sure that you can access your mail at the address you provide to the DPW.

4) Indicate Child Care in response to the "purpose of clearance" question.

5) After completing the form, mail both pages with a $10 money order payable
Department of Public Welfare to: Childline and Abuse Registry, Department of Public
Welfare, PO Box 8170, Harrisburg, PA 17105-8170. Processing can take up to 14 days.

6) You will receive official documentation indicating the results of the History
Check directly from the Pennsylvania Department of Public Welfare. Please forward this
information to the address below.

Looking for a roommate

Hey everyone,
Just wanted to introduce myself. My name is Jason and I'm from San Francisco. I graduated from Berkeley recently and I'm really excited about starting med school.
I'm over in Philadelphia already looking for an apartment and so far I've found one place that looks pretty good. It's a two bedroom apt at 926 race st. going for 1500. It's a brand new condo so everything is new with a washer and dryer. Getting to and from school will be really convenient since the subway station is about a block away. Lots of restaurants and grocery stores nearby.
I'm looking for a roommate to share this apartment with. Guy or girl is fine as long as you're clean, responsible and a non-smoker.
Email me at JasonQLam@gmail.com if you're interested. I'm meeting again with the owner pretty soon so let me know if you're interested. Thanks. I can't wait to meet all of you and get back to school.

Health Insurance Options

Hi Everyone,
I've been trying to decide on which health insurance plan to choose. Does anyone have any input as to which is the better, or perhaps more popular option?

JourneyEd.com

Some of you have contacted our office because you we're trying to purchase software from JourneyEd.com and needed "proof of academic status/valid academic ID." I spoke to one of their customer service reps who said that a copy of your acceptance letter would fulfill this requirement - you can take it out of the frame now :-)

Can someone is trying to get software from JourneyEd.com submit their acceptance letter as proof and let the blog know if it works.

Thanks and I hope you're all enjoying the last bit of summer.

Football Tickets and Health Insurance

I was wondering if we can get Temple football tickets at a discounted price. If so, how do I go about doing that. Also, how do we let Temple know we don't need Health Insurance?

Let's go Phillies!

Don’t forget to RSVP by August 1st for the Alumni Association event at the Phillies game. You can view the invitation on the TempleMedOnline website.

TUSM Class of 2011 Parents

Hello Class of 2011 and welcome to Temple. I am writing to ask if any of you are already parents, or are currently expecting your first child. Medical Students who are also parents have a special balance to try to strike, so we have formed a group on campus so that we can help each other out. We get together a few times per semester, and also we have access to information about how to get health insurance for the kids, babysitting and school information etc... local to the Philadelphia area. We are also working with the financial aid office to help address more of the needs of families in this setting. At any rate, if you fall into this category please drop me an e-mail or a phone call and we will get things rolling. In the mean time welcome again!!!

bouldering

Anyone in the city already: feel free to join me in climbing some geological formations. Who needs mountains when there's a nice big rock outcrop on Kelly Drive?

I'll also be making a trip or two out to Go Vertical down by Penn's Landing to check it out in the next week or so. Drop me a line if you're so (vertically) inclined.

looking for roomate

hey guys -

wanted to know if anyone is still looking for a room -

i have a place at 1028 wallace st, b/w fairmount and spring garden area. its really nice inside, all hardwood floors, all new appliances, two stories in a duplex (we have top two floors, another has the first and basement). lots of street parking available during the weekends and evenings, though the days are a little bit busier. the 23 bus stops right outside the house and goes straight to TU hospital and the subway is about a 5 minute walk over to broad and fairmount. there are two bedrooms and i havent decided which one i want yet, but theyre differently sized so the rent will be scaled. its 1250 total. it was just built a few months ago...and its definitely great if you dont mind living in the art museum area. im looking for a roomate right away so if youre interested, call me at 732.447.7367 or get me at lwong@eden.rutgers.edu though phone is faster. if not, see you guys in august and enjoy the rest of the summer

Swimming

Hey guys, I was just wondering if anyone know if there's a swimming pool in the undergraduate campus that we can use. I would hate to join a swimming club If I could just use Temple's facilities for free. I did a little search on the undergraduate website but I was unable to find any information. Also wondering If anyone here is living in Northeast philly.

PhillyCarShare

PhillyCarShare is a great resource for students who need a car for quick trips in the area. There are cars located all over Philadelphia, including Center City, Manayunk and East Falls. Check out the website: www.phillycarshare.org.

It’s easy to sign up and you can choose from a few plans. The basic plan is free to join and you only pay when you rent a car. There are different sized cars available, so you can get a larger one to fit all that Ikea furniture! Some stores have preferred parking for PhillyCarShare cars.

Keep this affordable, flexible option in mind as you’re moving in and getting settled.

Subway??

Hey,

I was just wondering how many of you were planning on taking the Broad st. subway to and from school. I've never had to take it before and I just want to make sure that it's safe...even at night. Also, kinda wanted to know that even if my roommie and I don't go home at the same time, that there is a good chance that someone I know will be on it. Let me know. :)

We need advice, help... a miracle.

Hello friends,

Basically this is my cry for help about housing. As smart as this is, my roomie and I are both from CA and have zero chances of seeing a place before signing a lease in center city. It turns out, looking on craigslist and philly weekly isnt as easy as we thought it would be. Does anyone know of some good apt complexes to live in in the city? Also, another wall we've come across is since we can't see any of the places, I guess it's technically illegal to be renting the apt out to someone who hasnt seen the place, so some of the landlords won't rent to us, if anyone has some free time lounging around the city.. hint hint =) Honestly, I'm just asking the people who live close to philly for any advice/wisdom possible, because we've been looking for about 1.5 months and are getting desperate. Thanks!

PS: my email is JessicaKim3@gmail.com if you guys have any advice!

Looking for a roomie

Hi everyone!

My name's Jill, and I'm also looking for a roommate for our first year at med school! I have a two bedroom, two bathroom second floor apartment near Manayunk. The website for the apartment complex is: www.theglenapartments.net (check out the Cambria-style apartment). It's about 15 minutes from campus, but I do have a car and would love to carpool. I'm fine with a male or female roommate as long as he/she is a clean nonsmoker.

If you're interested in rooming with me, let me know so I can send you more details and answer your questions. I can be reached on my cell phone (516.680.4222), by email (jillfonda@gmail.com), or on facebook!

Also, is anyone else living in the Glen apartments? I thought I saw someone mention them about a month ago, but I can't be sure.

Hope everyone's enjoying the summer, and I can't wait to hear back!

Jill :)

Summer Reading

As part of orientation, we are asking the incoming class to read a book, The Working Poor: Invisible in America, by David K. Shipler. Both medical students and faculty feel this is a good book to use for discussions on current US health care issues.

Small group discussions about the book will take place during the orientation week. We look forward to hearing your thoughts and ideas about what this book means to you. The book can be purchased at bookstores or at Amazon.com or checked out of your local library.

How to order:

1. Go to http://www.temple.edu/cs.

3. Click on "Personal Purchase: Student, Faculty & Staff" in the lower-left corner of the page.

Tech Requirements?

Hey Guys,
I'm having a little trouble with the laptop requirements. Its a little hard to find a laptop that doesn't have Windows Vista. I don't really want the Dell that is recommended. Does anyone know/think If it will really present a big problem? Maybe the USMLE will be more compatible by the time we are ready to take it?

Thanks,

Parking Question (Marie Fiero please help!)

Hi everyone,

I looked at the parking info that was recently posted by Marie Fiero, and I have a couple small questions.

1) If we're students who will drive to campus everyday (from orientation right on through graduation), would we want "guaranteed access parking"?
2) It says for students, we can get parking for September through December by paying for it by August 29. BUT what about parking in August, when classes/orientation starts?
3) Does it really matter which garage we get a spot in? Is there any difference? If so, do we get to make a request for which garage? How so?

Thanks so much to anyone who can answer this!! Hope you guys are enjoying your summers, and on a side note McGillins is an awesome bar (see Scotty Lang's post below). We might as well party it up before we hit the books real hard this year. I mean hey, we all want to be the best med school class in the history of Temple, right??

Thursday, June 28, 2007

Anyone planning to live in North Philly?

Hey guys. I was just wondering if anyone was planning on living within walking distance of the med school campus. Since I wont have a car I feel like this will be the best option. If anyone is planning on living there or knows anyone who is planning on living there, I would like to get in touch with you. Thanks, and I can't wait to meet you guys.

Hello From Pittsburgh

Hey guys, my name is Justin. Just like the rest of you, I’m really excited for Temple. I graduated from the University of Pittsburgh last year with a degree in neuroscience. Since then, I’ve been working in a research lab studying novel treatments for schizophrenia. Anyway, if anyone else is coming from Pittsburgh and would like to meet up around here some time before we head to philly let me know. Also, I just looked into renting a U-Haul to move my furniture and it’s fairly expensive. If anyone would be interested in splitting the cost/truck with me please let me know! My email is JDarrah01@gmail.com.

I look forward to meeting everyone in august, it seems like we have a really cool class!

Parking

According to the Office of Student Affairs, the parking information for Fall ’07 will be available on June 27th. We will post this to TempleMedOnline as soon as we receive the information. Have a great week!

Hey guys,

I'm Melissa. I graduated from Penn State last May (2006)...go Nittany Lions! I just thought I say hi and whatnot. I have been traveling for awhile and I'm just starting to get everything in order for school. It's been a year since I've been in school and I'm really excited to go back. Can't wait to me all of you. I live in the suburbs of Philly, but I'm going to move to the city (I have 6 younger brothers and sisters...can't live at home). I was just wondering if anyone needed a roommate or wanted to look for a place with me. Since I live near Philly and not everyone else does, I can go take a look at apartments. Let me know. My email is missyrs7@aol.com.

Cheers,
Melissa

Partner in crime?

Howdy!

I am looking for another student to take a bedroom in a 3-bedroom house in South Philly. I'll be bringing my car so carpooling with me to class is an option. There is a semi-finished basement for an office or we can use the third bedroom for this purpose. The rent is negotiable, but I'm thinking about $450. The house has a dining room, fireplace, dishwasher, washer and dryer, and many other fantabulous amenities. Email me for pictures or more information.

Hello Fellow Owls!

Hi all!

My name is Zina and I just graduated from UCLA (my graduation was this past Saturday, so I really envy all of you who have been enjoying your summers already!). I'm excited to meet everyone this August and to get to know you all.

I'm originally from Southern California, although I did live in St. Louis for a few years when I was little, so I'm really excited but also a bit nervous about moving to the East Coast. I can't wait to explore Philly and the surrounding areas, and maybe even take a road trip or two, but I doubt that I'll have much time to do that :^)

I'm also looking for one or two roommates. I think that I'd like to live in the Manayunk area, but I'd be up to exploring other options as well. I'm clean, drama-free and easy-going. I'll be committed to studying but I definitely want to have fun and enjoy myself while in school. If anyone still needs a roommie, please email me at zzhangin@ucla.edu.

I look forward to seeing everyone in August!

PC Requirement

I asked Tom Fanrak, the Manager of the Technology Support Center for the Health Science Center Campus, to address the “Macs Not Recommended” concern expressed on the Blog. The Technology Recommendations are posted to TempleMedOnline. His response is below:

The following paragraph in the "TechRec2007" document addresses the "no Macs" issue:

"The School of Medicine does not recommend purchasing a Macintosh laptop. Older Macintosh computers without an Intel processor are not compatible with the USMLE shelf exams. Students who own Intel-based Macs running Microsoft Windows XP are strongly cautioned that their Mac computer may not be compatible with the curriculum's online exams, lab and workshop programs, or certain course materials."

To elaborate:

The Med School's leadership has standardized on using software that is developed specifically for Windows PC computers.

This allows the Med School to adopt software based on its ability to meet the functional needs of the curriculum, and not on its ability to run on more than one platform. By requiring PC computers, the school is not limited to purchasing software that is developed and tested on both PCs and Macintoshes.

The school requires students to take online exams on their laptop. The NBME online Shelf exams do not run on the Mac OS platform. Additionally, Windows XP is required because the Shelf exams do not currently run on Vista.

The Med School has also chosen to require PCs to simplify the development and support of specialized computer programs created by faculty at the Med School.

Certain workshops will require a student to connect their PC to laboratory equipment that is only compatible with a PC.

Apple's Intel-based Macintoshes are a relatively recent development. The fact that they can run Windows operating system does not guarantee that they are able to run all Windows-based software that the students will be required to run.

By not complying with the school's requirement that students own a PC laptop, the student assumes all liability for their inability to complete their coursework, run required software, view course content, perform lab exercises, and take online exams.

I hope this information is helpful.

Hi Everyone! I am getting really excited about coming to Temple and am looking forward to meeting you all! My name is Valerie and I just graduated from Drexel as a Bio major. I actually finished up with classes back in March and I have been working as a Pharmacy tech in Baltimore since then. I am originally from just south of Baltimore, but since I went to undergrad in Philly, I am somewhat familiar with the city. Like many of you, I try to balance my studies with my social life.
Also like many of you, I am in search of housing and/or roommate(s). I am just beginning my housing search and would like to share an apartment/house with one or more females. I don't have much of a preference on where in the city I want to live.. as long as it is safe and affordable. I consider myself to be pretty laid back and easy to live with... i just like to keep things relatively clean, but that really isn't a problem because I clean when I am stressed! I am only about 2 hours away from Philly right now, so I would be happy to join someone in their search. Also, does anyone already have housing locked down and is just in need of a roommate? You can contact me at vnd22@drexel.edu or call me at 443-928-9457.

Still Looking for Housing

Hi everyone, my name is Nikko and I am from Napa CA. I am still looking for a roommate and up until now I have been focusing on housing for my internship this summer in San Francisco. So I am still looking for a place- I have a car, so I would like somewhere that is easy to commute to and from (also preferably close to a gym). If anyone is still looking for a roommate, the best way to reach me is narger@middlebury.edu. I was also wondering, where are the computer and health reqs? Are they on the portal site? Thanks and I can't wait until August.

I am looking forward to meeting all of you in August! Anyone participating in the SERA program?

Hey Everyone!!!

Hey all,

I don't want to be the only one who doesn't contribute to the blog so I figure it's about that time. I'm from New Jersey and I graduated from The College of New Jersey in 2006. I played basketball for the school and club volleyball. I've been working for a contract research company for the past year and I'm pumped to be moving to Philly. I just picked up an apartment in Rittenhouse Square, so anyone who will be close by let me know. Can't wait for August it's going to be awesome!

-Patrick

w'sup!

I dont really have anything important but I just like to say I am jealous of all of you already enjoying their summer (which I presume is everyone) while im studying for my last final!

But with that said, I think all of the california ppl should hang out before we make our move to phili..wut do you guys think??

Jay

Hello!

Hey guys. this is super late to be on the blog!
My name is Jackie Kim and I graduated from UCLA in 2006.
I"m currently living in Westwood and working at an elementary school.

Since I'm not from PHilly, or the East Coast, I have no idea where to even get started in terms of looking for housing. Should I make a trip out there to Philly to go look? It seems as if most everyone has their housing situation all figured out already. eek.

From what I've heard, I think I would really like to live in Center City and would love to find a roomate!
Any sort of help would be much appreciated.
I'm so excited to meet you all!

Center City Roommate?

Hi Friends!
I am looking for someone to live with me in the Center City/Art Museum area (preferably close to public trans). I haven't found a place yet, so if you already have one and need a roommate that would be great! I'll be searching online in the next few days for places though. I live 2 hours from Philly near Baltimore and have a pretty free summer so I can go up and check things out at any time. I'm a 22/male, clean, non smoker, and very easy to get along with. If you want to know more about me read my post "HOLA" from back in May or just email me

thanks, see you soon!

Yay Class of 2011!

Hello Class of 2011! I just wanted to introduce myself as your Orientation Coordinator. I’m a 2nd year at Temple Med and I will be working on your orientation for the summer. I am here to answer any questions and to check on the blog periodically. My e-mail address is mfiero@temple.edu. That is probably the easiest way to contact me and I can usually respond quickly.

So enjoy your summer and I look forward to meeting you in August!

Any thoughts to share?

Hey everyone!

This is Christine from Erie, PA- the other side of the state. I'm 24, a graduate of Ithaca College, and thrilled to be spending my next few years in Philly. I've been accepted to Drexel for a long time, I was initially wait-listed at Temple, and now accepted there too. I'm in a bind. For months I just assumed I'd be a Drexel med student. It's been really tough for me to make a sound decision on where to go. Really tough! Obviously I'm not asking for all of you fine people I have yet to meet to tell me where to go...I'm just hoping maybe some of you wouldn't mind sharing your reasons for your excitement and/or anxiety about going to Temple. Thanks for any help! Maybe I'll see you all this summer- I'm trying to move in July and would be all about meeting up for coffee or a drink sometime before orientation.

Hey East Coasters!

Hey guys, is our class really meeting each other for the first time online? I'm officially going to facebook stalk everyone here... just kidding!... =D hhaha don't be scared. But seriously, I'm excited to friend whore everyone out this August and meet a bunch of cool people.

First things first, I think we all need to find housing. I just went to Philly this past weekend (has anyone had philly cheesesteaks at Jim's it was awesome!) and talked to the admissions office, so I know some of the safe and convenient areas to live. When I visited, I loved the art museum area because it looks like a great place to go outside and enjoy nice weather (Are you guys laughing, I'm from CA, I can dream can't I?). I won't have a car next year, so ideally I want to live somewhere convenient for public transportation. I'm hoping to live with a couple awesome girls who I can have a great time with.

A little about me: I graduated from UC Berkeley in 2006. I am passionate about nutrition and enjoy being active. My email is J_Kim3@berkeley.edu Please contact me if you're still looking for places to live!

Greetings from Boston

Hey All,
I figure it is about time I introduce myself, so here goes: I'm Cari, I'm a 23 year old living in Boston right now. I went to Brandeis University and majored in Biology and Anthropology. I graduated in 2005, and I've been working at Mass General Hospital since then. I grew up in the Lehigh Valley, and am looking forward to moving back to the Keystone state and getting to know Philly and all of you better in August.
I've noticed I am hardly the only current Bostonian posting-would the rest of you Bostonians be interested in meeting up and grabbing a drink sometime before we all migrate down to Philly? I'm a fan of the Kinsale in Government center for its outdoor seating and central location... Shoot me an email at cariellen@gmail.com if you're interested.

Need One More For 6 Bedroom House!

Whatsup everybody,

I posted on here awhile back. Just to reiterate, my name is Gabe and I am a 22 y/o male from Eugene, Oregon coming out to Temple next year. The rest, you can reference my profile and/or my original post on here :)

I was posting because well it looks like 5 of us have been able to snag a 6 br house in the Center City/Art Museum Area and need one more for next year! We are all 22-23 y/o males from all over the country. We seem to all like to balance night life with school and are into sports, music, movies, video games, etc.

The house is a 6 br 2.5 bath four story house with a basement. The rooms are all big and good size. It comes with a wash/dryer and has street parking for cars (I think you need a permit for it) and is located at 1608 Vernon St if anyone is interested in google mapping it. The house is also right near the broad st line so transportation should be easy to and from the medical school. Rent will be roughly $440 a person + utilities which is a steal for the location

We are trying to lock this down and we need to get our applications all filed here shortly so if anyone else is still looking for a place e-mail me at gsmith2@uoregon.edu soon so we can get the ball rolling! We can sign the lease with 5, but there is a $250 lease alteration fee if we add someone so we need to get someone ASAP!

If you want more info, I'm on facebook and part of the School of Medicine c/o 2011 group so you can find me on there if you want. Also on myspace at www.myspace.com/gsmith68.

Hello From Texas

Hello everybody I’m Scott from Texas…Don’t know if there will be many other people from Texas at Temple. I graduated from Texas Tech in 06 and live in Fort Worth right now. My significant other and I went to Philly a couple a weeks ago and we were kind of skeptical about it but we really enjoyed the city. We found a nice apartment in Manayunk called The Glen at Shawmont Station. It doesn’t seem too far from Temple and it is close to her school PCOM also. I’m going to be enjoying my summer until I have to pack up my stuff in an U-Haul and drive it all the way up there. Can’t wait to meet everybody!

Art Museum District Living and Safety Question

Hi everyone. I was looking for apartments yesterday and found one on 21st and Spring Garden. I'm not from Philadelphia so I don't know much about the area except what I read. My question is to those who know about the area and whether or not I should feel safe in a first floor apartment on busy Spring Garden St.

Obviously it is in the city, so there is always the increased risk of crime with that... but I was just hoping to get some input from those of you who know the area... especially if you know anyone or have lived in an apartment near there before.

Thanks for any help and look forward to meeting all of you in August.

Any other midwesterners?

Hi Everyone,

My name is Lacy and I'm 24 from Madison, Wisconsin. I graduated from UW-Madison in 2005 majoring in Bacteriology and have since been doing research at the hospital there. I've lived near Madison my whole life so I'm really looking forward to exploring a new place. My only time in Philly was the 21 hrs I was there to interview, but I liked what I saw. : )I'm pretty laid back and like to keep busy finding new things to do.

I don't have a place to live yet, but I'd like to live with 1 or 2 other med students. I don't think I'll have a car, so I was hoping to find a place a reasonable distance from the school that I could use public transport. I like to go out and be social. I'm not a party animal but I'm not a recluse either, so I'd like to live with similar people. I like photography, music, being outdoors, traveling, good wine, and good conversation (kinda sounds like a dating ad, right).

Anyways, I joined the Temple group on facebook, so friend me if you want. I look forward to meeting you all! Feel free to contact me about living situations too! I might take a trip out near the end of July to apartment hunt.

Hey Everyone!

Since I've been reading this blog, I felt weird not being social and posting. My name is Liz (or Zil) Paterek. I'm 21 and I live in New Jersey about an hour and a half from Philly, so I can visit pretty much whenever. I went to college in the Philly suburbs (Bryn Mawr) so I know a little about the city. I graduated in 06' and spent this year working at Trader Joe's (I know the most medically related job ever, right).

I'm a music dork and absolutely love the scene in Philly. If anyone else is like me we should definately plan to go see some shows. I'm also a (pretty bad) snowboarder and I vaguely remember mention of a snowboarding/skiing club. I'm really hoping I didn't just make that up in my head. However, I will have a car so if anyone else is interested in snowboarding feel free to hit me up for a ride sometime.

I'm really looking forward to meeting all of you guys in August.

Peace,
Liz

PS: If anyone wants to contact me feel free to talk to me on facebook or email me at epaterek@yahoo.com

Late Joiner

Hey guys -

Seems I was a little late in joining the blog! But I guess its better late than never...

I am a 23 year old female, and I graduated from Penn State in '06. For the past year, I've been working for Accenture (IT Consulting company) as a Business Analyst and I've had the opportunity to travel around the country for work. Currently, I'm staffed on a project in Honolulu, Hawaii which has been pretty amazing :).

I'm also looking for a roomate. I visited Temple's Med Campus today to get some information on housing and I plan on going back next Thursday to visit some apartments in the Center City area (and hopefully sign a lease if all goes well.) If anyone is interested in making a trip down there as well, let me know!

Looking forward to meeting you all in August! Feel free to call/email me if you want to meet up or look for apartments.

Greetings from Brooklyn!!

Hey all!!!!!... I have been reading everybody's posts and I have become really excited to meet all of you guys in August. Well the formalities first... My name is Karimah. I am originally from New York City (Brooklyn to be exact.) I graduated from the University of Maryland in 2005. After that, I spent a year doing bioresearch/biodefense work for the government. Since August of last year, I have been living back at home in NYC and now I work as an EMT. I do have an apartment set up for this year(hopefully) in the Mt. Airy section. I would be willing to carpool if anyone else lived in that area. It is near Drexel's Med School, so it is near the Alden Park Apartments and such. By second year, I hope to be a roommate with one or more of you guys. I really am looking forward to meeting, learning, and studying with you guys. See you August 6th!!!! :) FYI, I am on myspace... myspace.com/karimah_rimah....

Go Owls!

Intro and Question

Hi everyone,

Just a quick intro if anyone cares. I'm from 25 from Los Angeles, graduated from UCLA in 2005, and been working there for the past two years. I am looking forward to meeting all of you.

A question about the laptop requirement. Does it have to be a laptop?? I got a desktop that meets the requirement, and a laptop that is basically a glorified type writer. I really don't want to spend the money on getting souped up laptop if I can just use my desktop instead.

More Req's

You guys, more fun. We also have to send in a report for child care clearance (on the site) that takes a couple of weeks.

Macs not recommended...?

Is anyone else a bit annoyed that Macs are not recommended?

I think we should storm the school. Or buy a cheap Dell. My vote is for insurgence.

hey guys! anyone know how I can find this "class page"?

Im a 21 year old from st. louis who just graduated from Cornell, and I look forward to meeting all of you. I don't know about everyone else but I haven't been getting any e-mails from Temple about deposits, health form requirements, etc., and I just wanted to make sure you guys were in the same boat and they havent just forgotten about me--lol. Also, there was a post about our class having a web page with computer, etc. requirements. If someone could direct me there I would appreciate it. Thanks, and I cant wait to meet everyone!

Shawmont/Manayunk Area

Hi Everyone,

My name is Anna, and like many of you, am also looking for a roommate for this August.

I found a nice apartment complex (http://theglenapartments.net/shawmont/index.htm) a little past the Manayunk area. It's about a 15 minute drive to school and the rent for a 2br starts a little under $1600. The parking is free (!!), there is a washer/dryer in each unit, and there's a 24 hr cardio room. If anybody is interested-- shoot me an email! anna.lim@temple.edu. (I'm open to both male and female roommates).

A little about me: I graduated from U of MD last May and took a year off to work. I am SO excited about going back to school and meeting all of you! I'm an incredibly laid-back and easy-going person (read: drama free roommate!). I plan on scoping out some of the concert venues in Philly as soon as I can and would love to have others to go to concerts with. Like some of you guys have already mentioned, I am also a video game nerd (it's my inner child).

I hope you guys have a fantastic rest of the summer, and I hope to hear from some of you soon!

Anna

Anyone in Europe?

Hey everybody,

My name's Levi DeLozier. I'll just get the required stuff out of the way: I'm 22, I'm from Central PA, I just graduated from the University of Pittsburgh, I don't have an apartment yet, I like sports (college basketball, football, golf), traveling, and long walks on the beach...

Are any of you in Europe right now? I've been traveling with a buddy from high school and we'll be in Rome, Barcelona, San Sebastian and Paris over the next two weeks. If anyone else is in the same boat let me know and maybe we can meet up.

Also, I just want to say that I'm excited to meet all of you and do this thing together. It should be fun.

Cheers,
Levi

apple and oranges

so I thought I'd change the topic from apartment/roommates. I am in the market for a new laptop. I have been a lifelong PC user but i am strongly considering a change to a mac. For those that a mac, is this a wise idea?? And for med school purposes, will a mac suffice? And how is the transition...im quite the technophobe!

looking to live in manayunk/ east falls / roxborough area

what's up everyone. I'm Jon Galli and I'll be a first year medical student this year. I'm currently in the process of looking for an apartment in the Manayunk/ East Falls/ Roxborough area. I'm looking for a roomate so if anyone is interested either shoot me an email at jgalli@syr.edu or send me a message on AIM at jagg64. Right now I'm kind of leaning towards Manayunk, but I'm still open to living in East Falls or Roxborough.

I'm originally from eastern PA about an hour north of philly (near Pottstown). I recently graduated from Syracuse University...in the tundra known as upstate new york. I'm a HUGE Eagles fan and I'm really looking forward to going to a couple of games again this season. Other interests of mine are playing sports, and going to concerts in the city (mostly alternative and classic rock). Also, I'm embarassed to say that I'm a little bit of a video game nerd. I recently went out and got a Nintendo Wii....very awesome.

I'm looking forward to meeting you all in the fall and I hope everyone has a great summer. see ya soon!

Galloping Galligators

I thought I'd be unique.

My name is Tamara, I'm 20 (I feel like the baby!) and I'll be coming to Philly from Boston!

I know nothing about the area and I'd really like to get an apartment with one or more other students. I'm super clean but that's really my only stipulation.

You can check out my profile at www.myspace.com/autumnashes24. My facebook link is there too. I carry my laptop with me everywhere I go (my Powerbook, for all you Mac users!) so you can email (TamaraJette@gmail.com) or message me whenever! I'd love the chance to meet people before getting to Philly!

Hope to hear from some of you soon and can't wait to meet the rest of you on August 6th!

Can I just say that we're awesome?

hey, looking for a roommate as well...

Hi Everyone,

My name is Helen and I just graduated from Brandeis Univ. in Waltham, MA. I was born in Boston and have lived here all my life. I'm very excited to move to Philadelphia =) I'm looking for roommates (with at least 1 other girl) and since I won't have a car somewhere that is accessible by public transportation is preferable. I've been browsing apts in the East Falls, Manayunk and Art Museum areas but I haven't found a place yet. I study hard and love to have fun, and people say I'm nice so if anyone's interested please let me know (email: hlee84@gmail.com). I'll be seeing all of you soon!

center city anyone?

Hey everybody! My name is Paul Zimmerman and I just got accepted to Temple about a week ago. I graduated from UNC Chapel Hill this spring and I'm living at home in Columbia, Maryland this summer. I'm looking to find an apartment in center city for at least 2 people, preferably 3 or 4. I'm free to go apartment hunting the first two weeks of June so lemme know if you're interested. A little about myself- I'm super laid back, into sports of all kind (playing and watching), going out whenever time permits, pleasure reading, and, of course, I take academics very seriously. Feel free to email me at pzimmerm@email.unc.edu or facebook me. It sounds like we're going to have a really fun class and I can't wait to get started. Also, if anyone lives around the MD/DC area and wants to meet up, possibly at an Orioles or Nationals game, lemme know.

Third Year Student Looking for Roommate

Hello,
For those of you that don't know me, I'm Zalo, and I'm a soon- to-be third year. My house-mate and I are currently looking for a neat-minded person to share our three-bedroom, one- bathroom house in South Philly. The neighborhood is a very clean, quiet, and safe area. The house is located on 2243 S.
Carlisle Street, which is about 2.5 blocks from the Broad Street subway. Although the room is not enourmously large, it is big enough for a dresser, bed, nightstand, and has a closet. The livingroom and kitchen are large and we have a finished basement for desks and storage stuffs. Down to the business details, we have central air/heat, a washer and dryer (so no more quarters for laundry), and the rent would be $350/Mo + (gas + electricity). Water is taken care of. If you're interested, please email me at gecruzmd@temple.edu.

looking for roommates

Hi,

My name is Robyn. I am from the San Francisco Bay Area of Northern California. I graduated from UC Santa Barbara in 2005 and lived in Seattle, Washington last year. I am currently back in the bay until school starts. I am looking for roommates for next year, and I don't mind living with girls or guys (I am a female). I like to balance school and a social life as well as outside activities. I am also excited to explore a new city. I would prefer to live in center city, so that I do not have to bring my car out yet. Anyone who is looking for a roommate, email me at rnhallam@gmail.com, and feel free to ask any questions! I also have a myspace, so you can look me up: search Robyn Hallam.

any other non-trads?

everyone sounds nice, i'm looking forward to a great 4 yrs. i'm also very excited about temple, a great program in a great city. my coordinates plot somewhat off the curve: non-trad, postbac, older (29), underrep in medicine, engaged, cali born and raised. out of curiosity, anyone else fall somewhere near that category or at least intersect one of my tangents? ha, nonetheless, we're all united in our passion and commitment to medicine and life. any soccer players out there? i'm trying to find out more about the temple team. socal folks, is anyone moving furniture (bed, desk, etc)? for convenience, i'm leaning towards starting fresh in philly but if someone else is moving stuff, maybe we can pool resources? norcal folks, i got love for u too. i was ucsc but lived in the bay for several years. i already secured an apartment at empirian towers, (btwn eastfalls and germantown i think) anyone know anything about it?
i can tell from what people have been writing that everyone will bring alot to this class, and once again i'm excited. just to be at this point shows alot of hardwork and character, so congrats to all. how are people spending their summers? looking for some good summer reading? atul gawande, harvard surgeon, compelling author. i've enjoyed reading what people are doing and what they're about. much more interesting than housing conversations. i look forward to hearing more and meeting in the fall....
Hi everyone! My name is Melinda Ukrainski, I am from South Jersey and graduated from Loyola College in 2005. I've been working at Bancroft Neurohealth this past year but so excited to stop working and go back to school! I'm also looking for a roommate and place to live thats easy to get to from school. Anyways, if anyone is interested my email is mukrainski@gmail.com.

Introduction

Hey everyone. I don't know about the rest of you but I am SOO psyched to be going to Temple.

A little bit about me: I'm about to graduate from Drexel (so I've been living in Philly for the past 5 years) and I know all about the city. Just like a bunch of you guys said, I'm definitely someone who puts school first, but I like to throw in some fun to the mix too. Also, I love traveling and SCUBA diving, so I have to get some of that in before August!!!

I'll probably live at home for my first year of med school, but if any of you guys don't know about the city/certain areas and want to know if it's a good area to live in, don't hesitate to let me know. I'm looking forward to meeting all of you! It seems like we're going to have an awesome class.

important apt info/call for roommate!

hey guys,

Its been great reading different blogs and checking out some of your facebooks too. We seem to have a really chill class!

ok so I have been researching apartments and I want to get it squared away soon. So I looked into this apt complex called Woodmere. I called them today and they have 2 units of a 2 bedroom apartment left. The rent is $1150/month and this includes utilities. For those bringing a car, the apartment has a free parking lot. As of right now this sounds like the best deal to me! And the commuting time would be roughly 15 minutes (7 miles). I believe I also read on a earlier post that someone else was going to live in woodmere.

I dont want to worry about apartments anymore so I want to go for this. Now for the important part: anyone interested in this apartment and rooming with me?? I am looking for one other roommate and you would have your own room. We would have to move quick because the apartments may go quickly ( there are 2 units available). Ideally, I want to call them tuesday and confirm. So before committing to being a roommate with me, I should say a little something about myself...
I am a 22 yr old male from california. Like all of you, I like going out and I think I manage play/work well. I am into all kinds of sports (playing and watching), video games (i will be bringing my ps2), enjoy going out and having couple drinks. but at the same time, I am very much dedicated to medicine so I can be serious as well. I like to think I am responsible, considerate, and clean (I can give email addresses of my current roommates for references lol).
But if you really want to know me, add me on facebook check out my pictures, im me on AIM and we can chat.

So ya, I want to call back woodmere tuesday so if anyone is interested in this apt and rooming with me please contact me!!

age/sex/location?

Hey all, guess we're going to be classmates and probably even friends, so this is as good of a time as any to do the whole intro thing. I am currently looking for at least one roomate, all I know is that I want to live in the city and dont want to pay too much for an apartment. Given we're all in the exact same financial boat, I think thats a common interest. But since I have to pick someone I dont know to live with, I figured it would be nice to have at least blogged with them once or twice. So this is my "I need a roomate" personal ad. My info is that I am a 22 year old male, pretty clean, and I like going out whenever the situation allows it. I know we're in med school and its not gonna be like college, but I'm still young and I hope to make my free time enjoyable here at Temple. I definately put school first, but I feel that we can all find some time to be happy and get a good laugh in everyday, no matter what. There are hundreds of pics of me on facebook, so friend me and check them out. You can also get a hold of me by my aim name: krashed77. My brother lives in philly so I will be visiting apartments soon. Oh and I guess this is like a personal ad so my turn ons include anything with the beach and girls with dark hair. Turn offs are gapped teeth and people who respond to personal ads. I look forward to meeting you all soon, have great summers.

MYSPACE

Hi everyone. Now that we've heard a bunch of intros and blurbs about each other, I thought it'd be fun to add a face to each name and maybe some personality as well? Most people have myspace these days so I thought we could all get a glimpse of our lives through there. You all can check out mine at www.myspace.com/inkyspace . Reply with your usernames so we can all get connected!

Another Intro

Hey everyone, hope your summer is going well (if it started). I'm Peter Barth, originally from a little suburb of Philly named Gwynedd Valley, which is about 35 minutes northwest of center city. I just graduated from Penn State last weekend, and I'm really looking forward to returning to the Philly area. I'm looking for an apartment in the center city area, so if anyone wants to possibly get together and look around downtown, I'll be around all summer. A little bit about me: I'm a sports fan, and I have my heart broken every year by the Phillies/Eagles/Sixers, but I keep coming back for more disappointment. I like to go out, listen to a lot of music, read a little bit. I'm pretty laid back, I like to do anything fun. I'm really looking forward to meeting all of you in the fall, and if any of you are around the city over the summer and want to meet up, send me an IM. My screen name is delpier07 (the last 0 is a zero; Alessandro del Piero was my favorite soccer player when I was younger f.y.i.). Have a great summer.

HOLA!

Hi Friends,
So, if anyone actually sits there and reads these, good, cuz I have and it's been great getting to "know" some of you. My name is Luis Garcia, I'm 22, and I live in Owings Mills which is a suburb of Baltimore in Maryland. Any Marylanders? Baltimorians? I graduated with a BA in Theology and a BS in Bio from Franciscan University of Steubenville in Ohio. My family is Puerto Rican (hence the "hola") and I do speak fluent spanish. I like doing missionary work in foreign countries, tennis, traveling, learning and growing in my faith, The Office, spending time with my family, writing poetry, photography, biking, and pretty much any type of medical service work. I'd like to live in East Falls and be able to drive to school, so i'll be reading more posts to see if I can find someone to live with. I'd love to meet any of you in the next few months, although the whole month of July I will be in NYC working at a shelter for formerly-homeless men. If anyone is around NYC, send me an email and I could show you around. I'm all about the "chill" night life, like jazz clubs, salsa dancing, a quiet pub, maybe some hookah...you get the idea. Overall people say I'm a pretty laid back guy with a love for life and a slightly goofy personality. Well, that's me in a nutshell! see ya'll in august!
Peace,
Luis Garcia

Hi everyone/looking for apartments and roommates

Hi everybody,

My name is Greg Schrank and I just graduated from Boston College last week. I've lived in Massachusetts my whole life and I'm really looking foward to a change of pace next year. As of now, I'm looking into finding an apartment somewhere in Center City, but I'm not that familiar with the area. The art museum and Rittenhouse Square areas seem pretty sweet and not too expensive. I would like to be somewhere in the downtown area with bars and restaurants and such. Two bedroom apartments seem to be going for around $1400, which isn't too bad, but I would be fine living in a three or four bedroom place if more people are interested. I don't plan on bringing my car down, at least for the first two years, which is part of the reason why I'd like to live in the city. About myself, I'm 21 and I enjoy pretty much anything outdoors especially sports. I'm a big baseball and football fan and I maintain a good balance of going out and hitting the bars as well as school work. For the next couple of weeks I will be on a cross coutnry road trip as part of that whole "I just graduated from college" sort of thing, but I will be back towards the end of June and could meet up in Philly to view apartments if anyone will be around and I could move in anytime after that. I'll be looking online for places over the next couple of days and if I'll post any good finds. Feel free to email me if you are interested or have any good tips on apartments. My email is : gregory.schrank@gmail.com and I also have a facebook account like everyone else. Enjoy your summers and I look foward to meeting you all in the August.

good evening to everyone

Hi Guys and Gals

My name is Steve Back. I'm looking forward to meeting everyone in a few weeks. I'm from Cherry Hill, Nj, graduated from Carnegie Mellon in '05. I've gotten excited about the upcomming school year from reading everyone's posts. I'm moving to the city in June and found a place in East Falls to live. I've looked in a few neighborhoods and at quite a few different places during my housing search so if anyone would like my opinions about different neighborhoods just send me a note. I'd love to chat or email. My sn on aim is loverocake and my email address is stevenback@gmail.com.

Hey everybody

Hey everybody,
My name is Ellie (male) and I am from LA. I graduated from UCLA in 2005 as an Economics major, and I can't wait to see you all in August. I will be looking for an apartment to rent/share in center city on June15th-21st.
If anyone is interested in a coast to coast trip, I am planning on driving my car (with a UHAUL trailer) sometime in mid July from LA to Philly, and I will be happy to have some company.

Intro, looking for apts

My name is Brad Tucker and I graduated from Cornell in 2006. I am currently living in my home town of Pittsburgh, and will be going to Philly to scout apartments May 29-31. I am looking for roommate(s). Any interest in housing or meeting up in Pittsburgh, let me know, bgt3@pitt.edu.

Playing follow the leader

Whatsup everybody my name is Gabe Smith and I will also be joining you all next year at TUSM in Philly! Just wanted to introduce myself... I grew up in Eugene Oregon and went to undergrad in my backyard at the University of Oregon. I'm still 21 (turning 22 soon!) and I'm excited to move out of the area for a few years. My interests are rather far and wide... pretty laid back guy and I enjoy my nightlife scene in balance with school. I've been involved in athletics since I was about 8 and I played lacrosse at the UO... Just to list off a few of my favorite past times/interests... backpacking, cycling, lacrosse, football, basketball, weight lifting, video games (counterstrike, fifa, ncaa football, and old school 64 are my favs), entourage, rome, daily show/colbert report, beirut, foosball, pool. I'm planning on doing a little road trip from Eugene to Philadelphia with my truck and a U-haul starting somewhere around the first of July. I'll be trying to make it into Philly around mid-July so I can have a few weeks to get settled into an apartment/house or something. Should be a crazy trip! Anyways, I am still looking for a place to post up for the upcoming year and I've done some searching and found some chill spots in East Falls and Center City. I'd like to either get a 2, 3, or 4 bedroom house/apartment. I have a 2006 Tacoma that I'll be bringing out to school so carpooling is an option if anyone is down. Here are some links to some places I've been checking out.

I was thinking about making a quick trip to Philly after graduation (which is super late for me... June 16) in the third week of June to check out options.

If anyone is interested in snagging a place just give a shout to me at my e-mail, gsmith2@uoregon.edu. The more the merrier. I'm looking forward to meeting all of you when I get back there! Oh and I'm on facebook and whatever so feel free to drop a line.

Hi from Boston

Hey everyone,

Just wanted to briefly introduce myself as so many others already have. My name is Jason and I'm 24 currently living and working in Boston. I'm two years out from college and looking forward to getting back into the swing of things. If there are any other Bostonians in the class of 2011, give me a holler. My girlfriend (Tracey, who is also in the 2011 class) and I will be around most of the summer until we move to Philly in late July. We're planning to live in the Center City area and will probably be taking a weekend trip soon to check out some apartment options. A little about myself... I enjoy playing and watching most sports (especially soccer, which I played through college), and I like going out on the town and catching a concert every now and then. I'm definitely a laid back guy and I'm really looking forward to meeting everyone in just a few short months! I hope everyone has a nice relaxing summer, and let Tracey or me know if you're in the Boston area.

Cheers,
Jason

Apartment in East Falls

Hey guys! I just wanted to make you all aware of an apartment that is opening up in my building August 1st. I don't think it's posted anywhere yet, but my landlord said I could pass the information on. It's a small complex, there are 3 buildings with 5 apartments each I think. The apartment is a 1 bedroom - living room, bedroom, eat in kitchen. It has hardwoord floors, central air, garbage disposal, dishwasher, alarm system, laundry in the building, and an off street parking spot. I believe the rent is $825 for the 1 bedroom, which includes your hot and cold water, cooking gas, heat, and your parking spot. The landlord allows cats, not sure about dogs. The complex is mostly professionals and grad students.

It is 10 minutes flat to Temple without any traffic, and 15 with traffic (I've timed this at various points in the day). It is 10 minutes up to the grocery store which is an Acme. You can walk down to the coffee shop, bars, and restaurants in East Falls (3/10 of a mile). Fairmount Park is also right there, if you're into biking and running. The train station is 1/2 block away, and its 10 minutes to center city, 2 stops up to Manayunk.

The best part is...I am only 2 floors away! I will be moving into my apartment June 1st. This apartment will be available August 1st. If anyone would like to come take a look at my apartment let me know (after June 1st). I can also email you pictures. I will be out of the country from tonight until Monday, but you can email me at kmpack@sas.upenn.edu. My cell is (215) 275-3524.

If you would like to contact the landlord to see it:
William Ross
(215) 848 - 6055

I think it's still available, but it will be probably go soon. You can leave a message for him, he will get back to you. The apartment is on Cresson St.

Happy apartment hunting!

Hi again

Hey guys, I posted earlier to say hi. I'm the girl from Colorado. I will be in Philly June 2nd through the 9th to look for places to live. I'm posting because I'm hoping there's somebody that would like to live possibly in Manayunk/Roxborough/East falls area (from the internet they all look like great places) that has pets or wouldn't mind living with cats. I have two...I know that sounds like a lot but they are so lovable. So if anybody has pets or wouldn't mind living with them please let me know. Maybe we can get together to get a place. Also if there's anybody that is living in the area that would like to meet up for drinks while I'm there I would love that.

Hi!

Hi all! My name is Beth O'Donnell, I'm from South Jersey about 40 min. from Phila. I graduated from Loyola in Maryland last year and have been working in Phila. at Children's Hospital for the year. I'm also looking in the Manayunk/East Falls area and will most likely be moving in late July/early August once my diving coaching season is over. Anyone who is already in the city and wants to grab a drink after work, let me know.

Beth

email: eaodonnell1@gmail.com

Want another introduction?

You're getting one anyway.

Noticed a couple of fellow Allentown guys posting, so I figured I might as well add myself to the list. Graduated '06 from Virginia Tech and have been living in Richmond, VA since, and making sure people's waste doesn't somehow make it into the James River.... (Any Virginians in our class?) I'll be living in East Falls starting July 1, but may periodically be getting as much climbing, backpacking (my roommate from Tech is halfway from Georgia to Maine at this very moment), and kayaking in as I can before August rolls around. Anyone that's interested in taking a day trip or two doing one or more of the above in July, let me know. I'm also planning on checking out Go Vertical (climbing gym in center city), although outdoors > indoors.

Hi!

My name is Beth Wilson. I'm originally from Chapel Hill, NC (disclaimer: I'm a Duke basketball fan) and I just graduated from Emory University in ATL. I'm currently looking for a roommate (potentially roommates) to live with in Center City. I've been looking at apartments online through craigslist and other websites and I'm planning on coming up to Philly June 11th-13th to check places out. If anyone is still interested in finding a roommate in Center City or has any suggestions let me know. My email is ewilso5@gmail.com.

Need roommates for a house

Hi,
My name is Stephanie DiGiambattista and I am looking for two female roommates to share a house in South Philadelphia. I would prefer two nonsmokers but can make exceptions. The address is 2251 S. 18th Street and it is located approximately 3 blocks from the Broad and Snyder Subway Stop, but a lot of parking is also available. All major furniture, services, and appliances are already provided. Rent and utilities will depend on the number of roommates attained. If interested in seeing the rooms please call me ASAP at 215-687-6125. Thanks!! ~Stephanie

Broad St. Area

Hey Class,

Does anybody know if the Broad St Area around Godfrey is a good neighborhood to live in? Also, if anybody is interested in getting a place around there, let me know because I was looking for male rommate(s). Thanks.

Intro Time + Housing Search

Hey what's up fellow Class of 2011 people! My name is Kemdi E. I'm 21 and graduated from Temple in December/January with a B.S. in Chemistry. With my time off I'm currently working in a doctor's office and going out/having fun/chillin, etc. I'm from the Philadelphia suburbs but will be living in the city. However, I still have not found housing since I am not particularly great at that. If anyone is looking for a male housemate (I don't want to share a bedroom) that has a room for under 750 (including utilities) I'd be down for it. I do have a car but I am not sure yet as to whether I will bring it to philly (depends on where I live in the city) I'd like to live in the Art Museum, Center City or Manayunk/East falls areas ideally. Main Campus was "alright," but I feel that it's time for a change in scenery after being there nearly 3 years. It would be awesome if the housing was within walking distance of a useful SEPTA line, too. See you in August!

hi guys!

Just thought I'd add to the list of intros. I'm Janice. I'm 23. I was born and raised in the suburbs of Philly. I graduated from UPitt in '05, and I've been doing clinical research at UPenn since then. Working is fun and all... but I'm definitely excited to get back to school!! I'm actually moving into Philly this week (at 11th and Vine). I'm going to be traveling Asia for a lot of the summer, so I wanted to get settled-in early.

If anyone has any questions about Philly, feel free to contact me! And for those of you already in the Philly area, let's meet up! Center City sips starts June 6!! :)

Looking for a place or roommate

Hey everyone,
My name's Dan, I'm 23 class of 2011. I'm looking for a roommate- I don't have an apartment, so if you do great, if you don't we can find one. I'm looking for the center city area, but I'm open to anywhere. I'm a pretty open-minded guy, I love going out and having fun, and I study often and respect everyone's space. I've been living and working in Japan for a year, which is one hell of an experience- but I can't wait to start med school in Philly (my hometown). I'll be coming back in June or July.

You can give an e-mail to me or a call (not long distance) to my phone in the U.S. and I'll give you a call back.

hello!

so I've made a few comments on peoples' posts and figured I would make a short introduction here. I grew up in a Philly suburb and graduated from Temple (B.A. Anthropology) last year. I've been living in an apt in the art museum area for the past 2 1/2 years and love it. I have a car and will be driving to school if anyone wants to carpool. Other than that, I like spending time with my dog and finding random fun things to do in the city. Hopefully I'll meet some of you this summer! If you have any questions about living in the city or just want to say hi, email me at pamelavalenza@gmail. com

roommate wanted

Hey everybody, I'm Matt, born and raised in Seattle and graduated in June of '06 from UW. It's been nice to have a year off from school, but I'm definitely looking forward to getting back to business. I'm laid back, casual, and fun, and am looking for a roommate that wants to live in Roxborough/Manayunk/East Falls area. The only time I've ever been to the east coast was for my interview, but I've been looking at apartments a lot online. I'm going to be in Europe for the majority of the summer leading up to orientation, so I'm looking to get housing situated before too long. If anyone's interested in getting a two bedroom place in that area, give me a call at (206) 817-0885 or email me at matt.parker2006@gmail.com. Look forward to meeting you all.

Hey Everyone!

Hi all! My name is Young, and I just graduated [very reluctantly] from Penn a week ago. I've had a ton of fun in Philly these past four years and am looking forward to four more! I'll be living in Center City (most likely) with a couple people that graduated with me this year. I went to high school in Allentown, but I live in Northern Maryland now. Looking forward to meeting all of you! :)

Greetings

I hope that everyone is enjoying their time off, or if you haven't had any yet, going to before classes start in August. I'm Zach and from Allentown which is about an hour north of Philadelphia. I did my undergrad at Temple as well. I saw some people asking about cars and living in the city. I found living in Philadelphia without a car to be really easy and relatively hassle free. If you have questions about Philadelphia, feel free to ask, I'll do my best to answer. I'll be moving to the art museum area in late June so if you're going to live in that area, or are in the city and want to get together let me know. I look forward to meeting everyone in August.

Living in Roxborough/Manayunk Area

Hey everyone, my name is Brett and I just graduated from Lehigh University in Pennsylvania. I am originally from Tuxedo, NY, which is in Orange County near Rockland and Westchester counties. If anyone is from around there and wants to get together this summer let me know. I have visited Roxborough numerous times now to look at Summit Park, Woodmere, and other apartment complexes (summitparkcommunities.com). I just got a one bedroom apartment at Woodmere for about $1000 per month with everything included. The room is a great size and many others including studios and two-bedrooms are available. There is an outdoor pool and across the street is summit park which has two pools, a beach volleyball court, tennis courts, and a clubhouse. Both Summit Park and Woodmere are owned by the same company so everyone has access to both facilities. I had heard that a lot of graduate students, specifically temple medical and dental students live there and I even saw a few during my visits. Plenty of parking is available at the complex and I think it's about a 15-20 minute drive to campus, but I'm sure everyone can carpool. There's also a shuttle bus that runs from Woodmere to downtown Manayunk so that we can go to restaurants and bars without having to drive. If anyone has any questions about the area let me know although I've only been there a few times.

hey hey

Hi everyone,

I'm Tina... originally from philly... currently living in orange county, ca. Can't believe I'm leaving beautiful cali weather but looking forward to the move as well. I'm looking for a place too, preferably in center city. I think it's just more convenient there. For my 4 years of college in Philly I didn't need a car because I took public transportation everywhere. So if anyone is interested in looking for a place in center city with me let me know. Esp if you're in socal it would be nice if we could meet up. But I say all of us in socal should just meet up before aug... we can hang out from coast to coast :)

Seeking roommate/apt,Can't wait to come to Philly

Hey Everybody,

I’m ecstatic about starting the MD program at Temple Med and meeting everyone in my class. Los Angeles, CA is my home and I went to undergrad at UC Berkeley, just graduating in December. I’m also looking for roommates and/or an apartment to share. I would be a1st year male, prefer my own room, but more than willing to share. Rent at max $650ish would be best for me. I wouldn’t have a car, so a location in close to campus and public transportation is best, preferably Center City. I’m social (I'll bring the hooka), outgoing (round one on me), clean, willing to compromise, & committed to the books. Please definitely contact me if interested.

Let's Hang

Hey guys! I am a 23 year old, laid back guy from the Philadelphia area. Although I have already found a roommate and an apartment, and am in no way an expert on Philadelphia, I would be happy to answer whatever questions I can about the area and about properties I have seen etc. I would also love to get to meet some of my future classmates before the start of classes in August, so anyone that lives in this area, or that will be coming down for the day should email me at wmdalonz@gmail.com, or facebook me so that we can meet up.

intro!

Hey Guys, its been fun reading some of the intros. I am getting increasingly excited about the next four years and getting to know all of you!

As for me..I am Jay from so. california. I am graduating from UC Irvine with a major in neurobiology. Like most of you, I enjoy going out, sports, and just hanging out. So scott, im def. up for a pick up basketball game or a drink or both! And im an absolutely crazy baseball fan and alhough im a avid angels fan, i look forward to checking out the phillies. I hope someone would be interested in accompanying me! I wish I was going to arrive in philli ahead of time so I can hang out but as of right now, I plan to arrive just couple days before orientation.

Also, I was wondering if 'triangle complex' (which is graduate housing) is available for med students? Or is it just a better idea to live bit off campus. I been visiting some of the apartment websites but being on the other side of the country, its hard to tell what they are like or what the area is like. But alot of you have said east falls is a good place so I'll look into that. Lastly, how many of you plan on bringing a car?

Info. For A Small Town Guy

Hi, my name is Roberto (Bobby) Rojas. I went to John Brown University in Arkansas. I graduated with a major in biology/pre-med. I was just wondering if I could get some help answering some questions. I know nothing about big cities. I currently live in a city that I used to believe was big, Columbia, Missouri, (I'm sure no one has heard of it). It's about 80,000 people on a good day, so as most of you would guess, I am clueless about Philly and the East Coast in general. I got an apartment just off Rittenhouse Square, is the subway going to be the best way to get to school? Where do I get a subway pass, or whatever it is that I need? Do I need any special parking permit to park on the street? What internet would you recommend? I heard that Sprint has a good all-over network. Oh yeah, does Temple require a certain kind of computer? I know some other med. schools are really specific. Any recommendations on good restaurants? Sorry for the plethora of questions. I'm looking forward to the coming years, it'll be good. Thanks.

Hey all. I'm David. 23 years old guy, graduated from Penn. Grew up outside of Philly and have been here since starting college, finishing and have lived here every summer for the last 5 years. I'm currently in a place on South Street, which is kind of a well known hot spot of the city for night life, food, and culture. I've seen a few posts from people who haven't spent much time in the area, so I thought I'd answer some questions. From what I've heard from my friends who are at Temple now and students who I met on the tour, the class last year was divided in half between Center City and just outside in the suburbs of Manayunk, Roxborough, and East Falls. Both can be really incredible. If you are living in the suburbs of the city though, you will pretty much be driving to campus, although I think there is a way to take a bus or train using SEPTA (philly's most loved public transit system - some sarcasm implied). If you are in Center City, there is a shuttle that Temple runs from Chinatown, pretty sure it's leaving from the Podiatry or Law School area, but not positive. You can also take the subway. Both are reasonable options, but if you are studying late into the night, I think the bus offers crazy hours. In terms of lifestyle, Center City is really alive and you can definitely manage life without a car for quite some time since supermarkets, great restaurants, public transportation, etc are all within walking distance....plus if you are close to Chinatown, you can hop the bus up to campus easily. Manayunk and the surrounding area are really beautiful and some of the places are right along the river, which has an awesome jogging/biking path as well as a train that runs into Center City that only takes about 15 mins. Personally, I choose Center City to live because of the walking options when I haven't been in class or at work, but for the longest time I thought it would be amazing to live in Manayunk. So there you have it. I'm currently apartment shopping and thinking about a move and I may also be in the market for a roommate. I am one of the lucky ones in Center City that happens to have a garage for parking and pays far too little in rent to deserve it. If you can find a place like that and want to have a car, it really is the ideal choice. More to come. bermanmail@gmail.com or facebook: David Berman

Hey Everyone! Just saying hi!

Hey everyone. I just wanted to introduce myself to my future classmates! I'm Irene(c/o 2011), just graduated from Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh. I majored in Electrical/computer engineering and biomedical engineering. I'm originally from New Jersey and have lived there pretty much all my life. I'm also looking for a place in East Falls or around that area(manayuk, roxborough) since I plan on bringing my car. I've found quite a number of apartment complexes in the surrounding areas, but haven't had the chance to check them out yet.
I'm really looking forward to meeting you all, and it will be awesome if we all live around the same area so we could hang out.
I'm definitely up for hanging out before school starts since I'll be around the area in the summer.
